1. Brand Disclaimer — Not the Band

ℹ️
WHAM Today is not affiliated with WHAM! the music group. WHAM stands for What's Happening Around Me. This is an independent news project with no connection to George Michael, Andrew Ridgeley, Sony Music, or any related entity. The creator chose this name independently, as an acronym, prior to becoming aware of the band's name.

The WHAM Today brand identity — logo, colour scheme, narration style, and domain — is entirely original and does not seek to trade on the recognition of any musical artists. If you have a trademark concern, contact [email protected].

2. AI-Generated Content Notice

WHAM Today's videos are produced using an automated AI pipeline:

  • Curation — Google Gemini AI selects and prioritises stories from public RSS feeds
  • Scripting — Gemini AI rewrites selected articles into ASMR-friendly summaries
  • Narration — XTTS v2 (Coqui TTS) synthesises an AI voice narration
  • Visuals — Programmatically generated ambient animations; no human video footage

All AI-generated content is reviewed at a system level by automated quality filters. However, individual episodes are not manually reviewed by a human editor before publication. AI systems can make errors, and we acknowledge this limitation.

3. Accuracy & Editorial Disclaimer

WHAM Today aims to be accurate, but does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any information presented. News events are rapidly evolving. AI summarisation may occasionally:

  • Simplify nuanced situations
  • Miss the latest developments after the RSS fetch window
  • Conflate related but distinct stories
  • Include minor factual errors introduced during paraphrasing

We are not a primary news source. Always verify important information with original reporting from established news organisations.

WHAM Today is not a licensed news publisher, broadcaster, or press organisation. We do not claim editorial authority.

4. Not Professional Advice

Nothing in WHAM Today content constitutes:

  • Financial or investment advice — do not make financial decisions based on our summaries
  • Medical or health advice — consult a qualified healthcare professional
  • Legal advice — consult a qualified solicitor or attorney
  • Security or safety instructions — follow official guidance from authorities

5. Our Copyright Approach

WHAM Today is built on the principle that factual news information is not copyrightable, and that transformative commentary and summarisation qualifies as fair use. Specifically:

  • RSS feeds are public — RSS is a standard format specifically designed for syndication and redistribution of news headlines. All sources used provide public RSS feeds.
  • Facts are not protected — The specific events, names, dates, and statistics reported in news articles are factual records, not original creative expression.
  • Paraphrase, not copy — Gemini AI rewrites every story into new language. We do not reproduce original article text verbatim.
  • Original voice — Our narration is produced using AI voice synthesis — an entirely new audio performance, not a reproduction of any original broadcast.
  • Original visuals — All video backgrounds are algorithmically generated (lava-lamp animations). We use no stock footage, film clips, or broadcast recordings.
  • Attribution — Source outlets are listed in every video description, giving credit and driving traffic back to original publishers.

6. How We Avoid Copyright Strikes & Legal Issues

Here is a practical guide to how we protect ourselves and operate legally:

News Content

  • Use only public RSS feeds — never scrape paywalled or subscription content
  • AI rewrites prevent verbatim reproduction of protected expression
  • Summaries are brief, commentary-style — not substitute products for the original
  • Credit all sources in video descriptions

Audio

  • All narration is synthesised by XTTS v2 — an open-source AI model we run ourselves
  • No copyrighted music is used without a licence (BGM, if any, uses royalty-free or Creative Commons sources only)
  • No clips from TV broadcasts, radio shows, or other audio recordings are included

Visuals & Thumbnails

  • Video backgrounds are programmatically generated — no stock footage or third-party clips
  • Thumbnails are generated from the ambient animation or custom-designed assets
  • No copyrighted photographs, news images, or media-outlet logos are used in thumbnails
  • The WHAM Today watermark is our own original asset

YouTube-Specific Protections

  • All uploads include source attribution in the description
  • We respond to all Content ID claims through YouTube's dispute process
  • We maintain a DMCA counter-notice process (see DMCA Policy)
  • We do not monetise content that is subject to active copyright claims
  • Videos remain set to "private" until fully produced; scheduled publish minimises window of premature visibility

Brand & Trademark

  • The WHAM acronym is descriptive (What's Happening Around Me) — not derived from any trademark
  • We do not use any artist's name, likeness, or trademark in our branding
  • The domain whamtoday.com was registered in good faith as a news service name
  • We have a clear disambiguation statement on all pages (see Section 1)

7. Background Music & Audio

Where background music is used in WHAM Today videos:

  • Only music from royalty-free libraries, Creative Commons licences, or public domain sources is used
  • No major-label music, film scores, or broadcast audio is included
  • Any BGM sources will be attributed in the video description

If you believe background audio in one of our videos infringes your rights, please contact [email protected] before filing a platform claim — we will investigate and resolve quickly.

8. Sensitive Topics & Editorial Standards

Our AI curation pipeline is configured with content filters to:

  • Avoid gratuitous violence, graphic content, or disturbing imagery in narration
  • Present sensitive geopolitical topics (conflicts, elections, religion) without inflammatory language
  • Avoid content that could be construed as hate speech, discrimination, or harassment
  • Maintain neutral, factual tone across all political, religious, and cultural topics
  • Comply with YouTube's community guidelines and advertiser-friendly content policies

Despite best efforts, automated AI systems are imperfect. If you believe a specific episode contains content that violates these standards, please contact [email protected].

9. News Source Attribution

WHAM Today aggregates content from trusted, publicly available RSS feeds including (but not limited to): The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Reuters, New York Times, Deutsche Welle, NHK World, South China Morning Post, The Hindu, RNZ Pacific, ABC News, NPR, Japan Times, and others.

We do not claim ownership of news information sourced from these outlets. Full attribution is provided in each video's description. The inclusion of a source does not imply endorsement by that outlet of WHAM Today.
